Gas cost split calculator

Meeting someone halfway? Use this formula to compute fuel cost for both legs and split fairly. The full version with auto-distance is built into our halfway calculator.

Round-trip fuel cost per person =

(miles_to_midpoint × 2) ÷ MPG × gas_price

Example

Alex drives 90 mi to midpoint, 28 MPG, $3.60/gal.

(90 × 2) ÷ 28 × 3.60 = $23.14

Sam drives 120 mi to midpoint, 32 MPG, $3.60/gal.

(120 × 2) ÷ 32 × 3.60 = $27.00

Sam covers ~$4 more in gas — Alex picks up the appetizer to even it out.

The halfway calculator handles all of this automatically: drops the midpoint, measures both driving legs, and shows drive time and fuel cost without any manual math.
